It's been a heck of a year!

I don't usually do one of these but then I thought, "That's what a journal is for, silly girl.".

It has been quite a year. A very good one. Our family has been in better financial shape this year then we have ever been. I consider that quite a blessing in the wake of the financial downside that this country as well as most of the world. Three out of the four people in the family have regular jobs and the fourth (our artist) made a small amount this year.

We didn't lose anyone this year which is always special and we even gained two new furries to our household. We survived the first Christmas with our year old kittens. Of course they got into their presents early but the tree is still standing and we only moved three ornaments out of their way.

I traveled more this year then I have ever done. I didn't realize how much until I started listing off the places I had been. In the state of Florida I was in Orlando, Tallahassee, Ponte Verde, Bonita Springs, Tampa and Daytona and then Atlanta, GA, Washington D.C., Columbus and Cleveland, OH and San Antonio, TX. I may have forgotten one or two. I meet a few new friends in my travels as well as some older ones. There are lots of new memories to store away for later.

I have made two goals for myself for this year. One is to travel a bit less or at least wiser. I don't need to go on every trip that is offered. I already turned down a trip for this coming year so I don't end up limping around. That's the down side for me. The knees are not what they were. My other goal is to lose weight which should help my knee problem. I've tried just about everything and ended up weighing more than when I started 2009. I've got the WiiFit system in mind. I have to clear a space in my bedroom for it since I refuse to exercise in the livingroom where everyone in house usually congregates. Wish me luck.

I had a couple other health scares this year but the only one that turned out to be anything was my bad knees. I am very very grateful for that. 2010 is looking bright and I'm ready to move forward. See you in 2010.

OMG My family is so absolutely positively amazing. It was like they understood my mood and gave me the most incredibly generous gift ever. I'm a huge Blake's 7 fan and I taped most of the episodes back when it use to run on the PBS channel but the copies are old and worn and I didn't have most of season 3 which is the best one in my opinion so........my family got together and bought me all four seasons of the show and since I live in the States they also bought me a DVD player that would play them. Are they super or what!

Also got a couple of vamp books I didn't own and a copy of Appaloosa but right now Virgil and Everett will have to take a backseat to my adorably snarky Avon.

The family is going to see Avatar tomorrow. Seeing a movie during Christmas reminds me of the days of seeing new LOTR films each year. Those were the days.

Huh, eggnog???

Who would have thought egg nog would change my mood??????

Not me. I've been in a funk through the whole pre-holiday season. I was just about to say the dreaded Bah Humbug. That's not me I love Christmas. I love writing, sending and receiving cards. I love ornaments. I have enough to cover several trees. I love Christmas music and adore Christmas lights.

It seems though that the economy woes have caught up with me.No Christmas bonus, no raise and Christmas party. The new health plan is lousy and my son has to work Christmas Eve but then I stopped at the store to pick up some milk after my bank run (to avoid doing it later in the day) and his guy was standing in front of the milk looking for the eggnog. There was none there for which he was extremely disappointed. I reached around him and grabbed my 2% and headed down the aisle and there just past the yogurt was the eggnog. I jogged back to the guy who had turned to leave and yelled out to him. He said thank you and grabbed one. He said thank you again before I left the store.

That got me thinking. I might not get the bonus or even the cost of living raise but I do have a decent paid job. Christmas parties serve foods that make me fatter and at least I have a health plan and the employer pays for it. Can't do anything about the son working cause he needs his job too but I can take home milk and the extra jog of eggnog that I decided to grab and have a very nice Christmas Eve night with the people I love the most - my family.

But before I leave to join them I raise my cup of eggnog to the best flist on the planet. Merry Christmas to all of you. Cheers!

The east coast of South Florida is having torrential rains. I got stuck in it last night. It took 3 hours to pick up my son from work. The trip normally takes 45 minutes at the most. Flooded streets, traffic jams, stalled cars and anxiety moments was the flavor last night. I left at 9:45pm and arrived home at a little before 1am. For a short time I considered stopping the van at a hotel or at one of the beach parking lots and waiting it out. My little Volvo would have never made it through that water. I'm hoping he stays home today. He's been feeling a cold coming on and I've never in my life wished for him to get sick before but just a little cold would be alright.

Well, the Christmas party for the kids is finished and it was a good one. The cards are all sent and the office is decorated. Now it is time to start Christmas at home. I keep wavering back and forth between be happy Christmas is coming and wanting to forget the whole thing. I've purchased a couple of presents and am encouraged hubbie to clear the way for the tree. I don't know what else to do.

The Road

I saw The Road over the weekend (no spoilers) and then immediately went out to buy the book. I probably should had done those two things in the reverse but what is done , is done. Viggo's performance was breath-taking. I hope he and the young man who played his son get a nomination/award for it. Who has seen this movie?

I just got the sweetest compliment. The on-site VP and I were talking about the moving of the garden that I teach in. I was saying how it was going to be strange not coming for the time it takes to move everything and open back up. He just said, "Well, we will just have to hurry so you have a new place to play in." What a sweetheart!

I missed the weekend but that can be one of the things I am thankful for - the rare weekend with nothing to do or at least no events to attend. There have been too few of those this year. The other thing is a regular hairdresser. I just got my hair cut and I have had the same person the last four times that I have gone even though I go to a SuperCuts. It's wonderful to see a familiar face and know you don't have to explain everything to someone new. The last thing would be the traveling. I have been some wonderful place this year. Of course that could go back to any earlier item - a job I love.

What am I thoughtful for?

Someone made a suggestion a day or two or more back that everyone should post things they are thoughtful for during the month of November. I think that a grand idea. Concentrate on what is uplifting and good instead of the annoying or tragic stuff. Well, it is already 13 days into the month so I have a little catching up to do. Ignore the fact that it is Friday the 13th. I, myself, am too content today to give it any serious consideration.

Third time's a charm

This is the third time this week that I have attempted to return to the land of the living by posting something. First was the meme that I was tagged for and then a personal post that I tried to do. Every time I made the attempt something went wrong and then the feeling of "why bother" or "the moment has passed" went over me and I ended up leaving them in a private post. I vowed that today will be different. I am over the funk that descended upon me weeks ago though it took a personal day at home to completely banish it. The only reason I survived this long was because of my wonderful weekend in Columbus with my flist and a couple days at the beach. Each event helped me to keep it together for just a tiny bit longer. That said, I have a few pics of the Fall leaves from Columbus to go with our few days of cooler weather. We don't get this kind of color down here so it was amazing to be able to see and photograph them. Several were taken from taelyn_sass car as we toured the area.
