Hawaiian trip (day one)

It is amazing what one little post will give you the energy to do. I wrote that and it sort of prompted me to do more so I'm backing up to January (I hope no one minds). January 3rd hubbie and I took off for Honolulu, Hawaii.

It took like over 13 hours to get there and during the last hour or so we kept looking out the window and thinking, "Did we miss it?" or "Did the pilot fly passed the islands?" At that point you know you have been on the plane too long. We arrived safely and we greeted by our guide with the traditonal flower lauas and were wisked off to our funky hotel on Waikiki Beach. The view from the room was beautiful. The ocean one way, downtown Waikiki the other way and Diamond Head outside the front door. The room was quite comfortable but definitely BRIGHT!

The hotel was great. It's right on the beach (well, across the street but close enough). Breakfast is provided each morning along with live entertainment poolside. You get all the pastries, fruit, cerals, yogurt and drinks that you can fit in a little cooler bag. If you desire something hot. They served omelettes or french toast for a small fee. It was great. We took the leftovers to the room for snacks later.

We spent our first day visiting the aquarium which was just a short walk from our hotel and then eating lunch with the local wildlife. It didn't seem possible to discourage the Zebra Doves from joining us. These birds were everywhere on the island.

Our afternoon was spent on the beach and doing some snorkling. The sand there is the softest I have ever felt. I sunk into it with every step. The snorkling was great. We saw an octopus eating a fish, scared a moray eel out of its hole and saw tons of colorful fish including the highly decorated humu-humu-nuku-nuku-a-puaa fish. So cool. We spent the evening having dinner and wandering in and out of the shops on Waikiki Beach.

End of Day One. Stay tuned for more.

Nice pics!
Love the spikey sea creature (I'm too lazy to look up the name, sorry) and pidgeons... they have one sort or another in every country I guess!

Thanks for sharing hun!

I love taking pictures and even more when they come out right. It's special capturing little pieces of the places I go.

Thank you.

Sounds like you had a fantastic time! When I went to Hawaii we stayed in a little villa on Maui and it was gorgeous. I'm thinking of the way the air smelled right now and longing to go back.

Our first day there we walked across the road to the beach and ate at an open air restaurant and watched humpback whales breach as we ate. Ugh. Amazing.

Can't wait for your next set of pics!

The air is so clean there. I kept expected the usual smell of the ocean but it wasn't there. It was amazing and I want to go back too. I didn't want to leave.

We saw some whale sprays on one of our side trips. It was amazing.

That bedroom is very bright! How do you 'turn it down'
for night? *g*

I like the waterfall fountain pic very much.

It was bright but it made you feel like you were in Hawaii. The whole hotel was very open. The registration desk open onto the pool area where we ate breakfast and the waterfall and surf board wall was part of an open valet area with lots of comfortable couch and chairs. It wasn't like any hotel I had seen before.
