Roof update and other stuff

Went to the county fair yesterday to help run the chicken BBQ contest. I say "help" because someone had asked the supervisor from the next county to be a judge and he was so good at running things that I let him run it for the most part (not need for too many chiefs) and just answered questions and talked to nervous parents who's children were participating for the first time. Little grumble here: I wasn't feeling too bad yesterday but people kept shoving chairs under my butt every chance they got. I should appreciate their concern and thoughtfulness and inside I do (really). The problem is that I always thought of myself as strong and so the hobbling and cane are rather frustrating but it's life so I bite my lip and smile and sit down again.

As for the roof, the leaks are finally all gone as the worst holes are now covered and just some finishing touches need to be done. The new wood is wonderful to see. Strange but funny story came from the contractor. He came by to say they would stop until the inspector checked the construction and told us what happened when the workmen opened up the roof. They were kinda' shocked to see some 10-15 raccoons pour out of the attic space. Apparently at least one pair had started a nursery in our attic. I knew there was something up there from the noises coming from up there at night but I never imagined them. Now it all quiet, strange but nice.

Cleaned the frig out to get ready for Thanksgiving. Another holiday without Rachel in residence but I think I'll be better this year. I hope to get through the holidays without the break-downs and the tears. I know where the base of the Christmas is now. *sighs* Really!

It's a short week and a quiet time at the office. The boss is off on vacation in Australia so I don't expect to hear from him much. Lots of time to clean and organize things around the office. I plan to take advantage of the quiet.

That's all for now.

It does get better, not having them home on holidays. We sometimes set up the laptop with the webcam and have dinner together that way.

I hope. We tried the skype thing last Christmas. It sort of made it feel like she was still there.

I know what you mean with the chair thing... it's irritating and sweet all at the same time.

Oh my! Poor critters are in need for a new nursery now. *g* I'm glad there's no more leaks though.
Nice, quite and dry, that's exactly how it should be!

Go with the flow hun and see where you end up.

Really! But they know me and how I push things. I was nice to have a chair when I needed it.

I like the dry feeling and quiet. It is strange though. You know. There's a big mess to clean up now but I'll only have to do it once. No new messes. That's nice.

I'm crosses my fingers about the holidays.

*g* Sometimes it's good people know you well.

With the quiet comes peace that everything will be dry. No more worrying is nice. You'll get used to it soon enough.
Oh, I remember the mess. The dust, unpacking stuff, cleaning, vacuuming... No new messes is awesome!

I'm sure there will be some tears but I'm sure there will be laughter as well.

*hugs*

You know what is awesome? Seeing the bowls and stuff that used to catch water sitting clean in the drying rack waiting to be put away. That's awesome.

Glad to know the leaks are gone! We had a squirrels in the attic once but a family of raccoons is much more unusual!

Enjoy the quiet time.

It is strange. We never see raccoons around the house in the evening. Oppossums and cats yes but not raccoons. I would have loved to see them. I wonder if any of those workmen screamed like little girls. *giggles* Nah, they have probably seen that kind of thing before.

Quiet is nice. What is also nice is seeing the pots and bowls that used to catch water being cleaned and put away.

Yeah, really. I've seen squirrels, mice and opossum in the yard but not a single raccoon. Now I know where they were all hanging out.

The house is so quiet now. No fights over my head. No scrambling noises and it feels so secure like it whole again.

Hope you're healing well and the hobbling and cane will soon be part of the past. It's nice that others were looking out for you, although I can understand the annoyance, too.

Wow, that's a lot of raccoons hiding out in your attic! So glad the noise and leaks are over for you.

Holidays are rough when someone you love isn't there. *hugs*

The knee is getting better little by little especially now that I'm not doing as much hard work around the house.

The house feels secure and it's definitely quiet. It a great feeling.

Take advantage of the consideration when it's there, hon. There'll be days, I'm sure, when you really wish someone would get up and give you their seat, and it'll require a death glare before they move.

Yikes! So many raccoons!

Glad to hear the roof is all fixed.

Definitely a good idea to take advantage of teh quiet while the boss is away. (I tried that when my boss was away for three weeks... but Sandy put the kibosh to that and I spent two weeks scrambling to reorganize his itinerary and change his flights and accommodation! lol)

The whole house feels quiet and secure. It's a great feeling.

I really do appreciate the offered chairs. It shows that people care.

I'm thinking of doing some sort through and throwing away of stuff in the office while the boss is away. I haven't heard him except for a forwarded email. That's a good sign that it will stay quiet for the next two weeks.
