Just a little commentary

The news is always spouting all the bad things that happen in this world but I wish sometimes that the simple kindnesses would get more air time. Yesterday I was treated to a real act of kindness and thoughtfulness. There has been a construction ladder leaning against the front of the house every since the roofers finished the top of the roof. It was there for the inspector to check the roofer's work. Yesterday morning the ladder was gone and since the awnings are still down and we had a nap on Sunday afternoon we assumed that they came and removed it. Silly, now that I think about it. Why would an inspector come on a Sunday? But no, the ladder was stolen. I received a call shortly after returning home on Monday from the man living three blocks away. He had found the ladder leaning against his fence with the building permit still attached which is how he knew who to call. I drove over and he helped me load the thing in my car. He didn't have to return it. It was a good ladder. He could have clipped the permit off and thrown it away. What a sweet guy. The roofer came back later and chained the ladder to the front porch so hopefully it wouldn't walk away again before the inspector came.

Isn't it weird that nowadays we are surprised by such an act of kindness? It used to be so 'normal' to do a thing like that.
Makes you wonder where the world is going to...

It's still nice he called and helped you getting in the car.

*hugs*

Not much of a commentary on our society but it's nice to know there are those who are willing to put themselves out there and don't see it as unusual.

makes you wonder why take it if you're just going to abandon it. Glad you got the ladder back

That I hadn't figured out. They didn't even take the building permit off of it making it easier for the property owner to return it.

Nice to see something good for once! It's sad that it's not the norm.

It's little things like that that keep me from giving up on today's society as a whole. Far too many people are interested only in what's in it for them.

It's nice to know there is 'still some good in the world'.

Yes, it is. He could havr thrown the permit away and kept the ladder. The ladder is gone again but I don't suspect foul play this time. I'm sure it's because the inspector has come and gone so it isn't needed anymore.
