June Challenge (Nature closeups)

Note: Please pardon the skipped days. I've been going to some follow-up appointments for my now missing wisdom tooth, taking care of a broken car and broken glass.

Today's picture is a segment of something. This is a cabbage palm/sable palm truck before the ends of palm fronds fall off. The rest of the leaf breaks away (or sometimes is cut away) leaving these pieces that look like antlers covering the truck. This one looks like it's been cut to make the tree look uniform and clean. I had another picture in mind but my camera wasn't cooperating. While cleaning up the garden tools after class on Wednesday I came across an interesting sight. There was a 2 1/2 foot black snake draped across my hay bales. I assume he/she was sunning itself while the weather was a little clear. Unfortunately my battery was dead and so all I could do was watch it and remember.

That's pretty. I'd never stopped to acutally look at a palm like that before

Colors and patterns fascinate me. I wish sometimes that I had a more powerful camera to get those real close ups.

I like the palm like this before all the pieces fall off and it's just the skin since palms don't have any true bark.
