Next stop on the South Carolina tour

Our next stop after Pearl's topiary garden was Moore Farms. The garden was founded in 2002 by South Carolina native Darla Moore, who sought to prove that her family’s ancestral croplands could be transformed into a place of beauty, and an example of horticultural excellence.

As her garden grew, so did Ms. Moore’s vision for the future of the property. Soon she began to see the potential of the garden as a place for horticultural research and education, and as a place of enjoyment for visitors. Moreover, she saw that the garden could become a source of pride for the people of her hometown and home state. The garden, she determined, would become a gift to the ages – an enrichment to the lives of others. Darla still lives on the property part-time. It must be amazing to live amongst such beauty and have someone else maintaining it. Here's a few scenes from the garden with much more under the cut.

Note: The green roof covered what is usually an ugly building (maintenance shed) It was beautiful landscaped and taken care of with the added bonus of having a spiral staircase at each add and a walk of grass to allow visitors to see the roof up close. The sprinklers went off while we were up there and couldn't be turned off. It was a nice cooling off on a very hot day.

Me too. Willows were a favorite of mine growing up. They don't grow in Florida. It's a shame really.

It is. Can you imagine living there? If I did I'd get my 10'000 steps in every day just walking the grounds.
