Fresh from Florida

Not just a Department of Agriculture motto. I pulled up a couple of heirloom carrots that my missing family was growing. They are not really missing. They spend a lot of their year in Texas so the rest of the class has to take care of their section of the garden. I put them and some fresh lettuce, mustard greens, purslane and spinach in my salad today. Mmm Mmm Good! I laid a couple of store-bought carrots next to them to show the rich colors or in the case of the white carrot the lack there of. I saw that carrot and was thinking of Bunnicula, the vampire rabbit. hehe

They were very tasty. Much more than the store-bought.

Home grown veggies are always better in taste. Probably because it took some work to get them on a plate. ;)

Wel-done!

That could be it. You have to wait and wait for them to get big enough.

Those look amazing! Home grown is the way to go if you can.

You'll appreciate this: our last town had a heirloom seed bank where you could get seeds. It was located in an old bank building. The county seemed to be progressive rural.

I'd love to have some like that near me. I pulled another white carrot out this week. I'm hoping to see some yellow ones before the harvest is finished.
