100 Things that make me smile!

Big Smile Today - my students and I finished our landscaping project. It turned out quite well (if I don't say so myself, which I do) :)) It is a butterfly garden (in front) and an herb garden (in the back). Only two of my students could be there for the installation because the other family's moving schedule changed and they left a couple of days ago. :( The staff at the schoolhouse has promised to keep everything watered while I am away. :)

Looks great!

We finally have little pumpkins and melons, and a few sunflowers have opened

That's wonderful. I've lived in Florida so long that I'm now amazed when people talk about summer and fall harvest. Summer is for pulling back and letting everything go to seed and Fall is for planting. I was actually a little anxious about planting this flower garden now because of the heat and the bugs but the level of rainfall is helping to keep everything going.

You did a great job!

I wish I had the same knowledge you have with plants...

It is great creating something that the kids can be proud of and that will last.

The knowledge has come over time but I've found I really enjoy working with the soil.

Thank you. We have waited a long time to put it in and I think I feel more of a sense of accomplishment than the children. I've checked on it once and plan to stop by on the way home before I head back out of town tomorrow morning. I'm like a mother hen.

Squash, huh. That's something we always have problems with. Anything in the gourd family from pumpkins and squash to cucumbers tends to get eaten or rots. I've pretty much given up on growing any of that in our high humility. I wish you the best. You'll have to take some pictures of the fruit if you are successful.

It's got a good healthy start though if it goes as predicted you won't be able to see that wall in a bit.
