100 Things that make me smile!

I was looking through the remainder of my pictures for those jewels that made me smile and couldn't believe the ones I forgot. This was an indoor carousel in Washington Park in Hartford, Connecticut. It was fun just to go for one ride and be a kid again. The ticket lady looked at me funny when I asked for a single $1 ticket when everyone else was buying them ten at a time but I just wanted a little ride. It reminded me trips to the shore over Labor Day weekend and knowing what "grabbing the brass ring meant". Pictures are a little wobbly cause the carousel was in motion.

Looks like so much fun. They just don't make good carousels anymore

No, you don't. This one was brought to the park in 1974 and is a restored 1914 carousel. It's all horses but quite lovely.

Have you seen the one in San Francisco zoo, or Colorado Springs zoo? Both are turn of the last century works of wonder, restored and in use

Have not been to either place. This one is a 1914 restored carousel that was relocated to Hartford in 1974.

This made me smile. Yes, it's fun to feel like a kid once in a while.

The carrousels I got on when i was young didn't have brass rings but tassels. ;)

Tassels? How did that work? The ones I remembered from my childhood had a metal arm that swung out and was filled with metal rings the you snagged with your finger as you rode past. Most of them were silver but there was always one brass ring that afforded the person who grabbed it a free ride.

How pretty - we still have a few of these in seaside towns and theme parks.

It's rare to find them outside of amusement parks. I looked this one up to learn some history and discovered it is a 1914 carousel moved to the city park in 1974.
