100 Things that make me smile!

My smile today comes from the periwinkles and mint plants that I just bought to brighten up the flower gardens at my children's garden. I checked all of the gardens on Saturday. The vegetable garden looked pretty good. The vegetables are shot but that's normal. They will be renewed in the near future but the flower section survived the storm. The second flower garden is a little battered but will look better once the periwinkles are added to it. I am happy that little piece of my gardens made it through with minimal damage.
The other smile came when I got to the office and the debris pile out back was gone. Yes! Wasn't sure the city would haul it away because we are a business. Also the office is iguana-free. That's always good. I like the green guys but outside not running around the office.

I hope they pretty everything up and that the iguanas don't eat them. This is supposed to be a flower garden not a buffet for the lizards.

Iguana-free sounds promising. :)

Question: What do periwinkles do to your garden?
I'm very new to look after greens...

Another question: Do you know this berry bush name?
berry bush 2
They are growing a lot in my garden...I wonder if I should do something to them or how to take care of them. Thanks.

I suspect that the berry bush is not edible except to birds and that we might consider it a weed. It looks familiar but since you live in a different area of the country it might not be something I've seen (or haven't seen in a long time). Looking up weed plants common to your area might tell you something. I'll check a weed book I have when I get home. Maybe it grows everywhere in North America.

Thanks for the information.

While I was checking the name of the bush with the actual one in my hand, one of my cats ate a berry or two...Nothing happened to her. So at least it is not poisonous. *phew*

Again, thanks for your help. *hugs*

I have one of those munchers, too. My Suzy eats everything that I bring into the house so plant matter of any kind no longer stops inside the house on the way to the back porch.

I forgot to look up the plant last night. Must write myself a note.

I googled about periwinkles after leaving my comment...

It's the flower name of your pic above! I thought it was the other periwinkles, this.

I wouldn't want that it my garden. They are rarely welcome visitor. The other name for the flower is vinca rosea.

I'm hoping that the iguanas will leave them alone long enough for them to establish themselves.
